Having registered their fifth win in a row, Knight Riders continue to lead the table with 14 points; they will take on hosts Jamaica Tallawahs, who are placed 3rd with 8 points, on 26th August at Jamaica. The last time these two teams met, the Tallawahs had won the match by 4 wickets; they will be eager to repeat the winning performance at home this time. Tallawahs recently lost the match against Patriots by 37 runs and want to make a comeback here; it needs to be seen if they can stop the Riders’ juggernaut, being the only team to have defeated them so far, and climb up the ladder.
Chasing 209 runs against Patriots proved to be too difficult as experienced players like Kumar Sangakkara and Lendl Simmons failed to fire with the bat. Openers Trevon Griffith and Glenn Phillips set a solid foundation while others down the line kept the scoreboard ticking; however, they fell short of the target by 37 runs. Earlier, the bowlers were expensive with pacers like Andre McCarthy, Mohammad Sami and Rovman Powell leaking away too many runs; although Santokie, Odean Smith and Kesrick Williams provided regular breakthroughs, they couldn’t stop the Patriots from setting a huge total.
Against Amazon Warriors, they successfully defend a low total of 128 runs thanks to a superb show by speedster Kesrick Williams, who took 3-30, and a good performance by spinners Garey Mathurin and Imad Wasim. Glenn Phillips is in good form, and he posted a well-made half-century in that match; along with others like Griffith, McCarthy, Simmons, and Sangakkara, Tallawahs can surely pose a challenge here.
